James Mullen

He grew up in Revere, MA and then moved to Saugus, MA, graduating from Saugus High School Class of 1950. He was a member of the United States Marine Corp. serving in Korea before being honorably discharged. He married the love of his life Addie in March of 1953 whom he spent 67 years of marriage with, raised his family in Saugus and West Peabody before moving to Salem in 1972. He started as an Apprentice Machinist then worked as a Machinist for many years until he became a Computer Systems Analyst at the General Electric in Lynn, retiring in 1998. He was a dedicated member of the Franco American 8 Ball Pool League from 1995-2010 and the ICC Beverly 8 Ball Pool League from 2010-2015 until he was 80 years old. He loved playing pool, card games, softball and golf, doing challenging crossword puzzles, listening to and studying many German and Italian operas, going out to dinner (he especially loved his Prime Rib), and of course smoking his pipe filled with Captain Black. Most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends in the chaos of our fun filled home.

He was the devoted father of Linda N. Gideika and husband Anthony C. of Lynn, MA, James E. Mullen Jr. and wife Tracy of Euless, TX, Pamela Kline and husband John of Natick, MA, Paul Mullen of Newbury, MA, Mark Mullen and wife Julie of Cape Coral, FL, Timothy Mullen (deceased) and Laurent Mercier of Amesbury, MA. Cherished grandfather of Lauren Soares and husband Keith, Anthony C. Gideika Jr., Lindsey Saunders and husband Elliott, Kathryn Miller and husband Jamie, James E. Mullen III and wife Kerrin, Corey Mullen, Samantha Mercier DiNicola and husband Chris, Olivia Mullen, Janessa Mullen and fiancé Flynt Foley, Jarrod Mullen and Cody Mercier. Cherished great-grandfather of Liliana Soares, Tiffany Miller, Romeo Dominguez Mercier, Mariah Miller, Logan Mullen, Brianna Mullen, Teagan Foley and Viviana DiNicola. He was the dear son of (the late) John Mullen Sr. and Rose Mullen, the loving brother of (the late) John Mullen Jr., wife Nancy and families. Beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews. Bruce Hunt had a special place in Uncle Jim’s heart being that he lived with his Uncle and Aunt Addie for many years.

A funeral service was held on Tuesday, April 28th for immediate family only. There will be a celebration of life held at a later date for all family and friends to honor Jim together. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in his memory to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 15829 Arlington, VA 22215.
