Gerald Michael McManamy, 69, passed away Monday, December 18, 2023 in Lynn. He was born to Alicia M. (Holland) McManamy and John C. McManamy on February 23, 1954 in New York City. Gerry grew up in a close-knit family neighborhood in the Bronx, N.Y. and spent summers at Highland Lakes, N.J.
He distinguished himself as a scholar-athlete at Saint Nicholas of Tolentine High School, where he graduated in 1971. He next attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y., where he was a member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity and the varsity basketball team, graduating in 1975 with a degree in Engineering.
After a short time at the Union Carbide Company, Gerry went on to Dartmouth College, where he earned his MBA from the Tuck School of Business and was honored as a Tuck Scholar. Gerry worked in New York City in finance for Price Waterhouse, Goldman Sachs, and Chemical Bank, before returning to Hanover, N.H. in the Upper Valley in 1990 with his wife, Barbara Fildes and their two children, Sean and Casey. The couple divorced in 1993.
Gerry has lived in the Lynn community for the last 20 years. Early on, he worked for the Salvation Army, and later he worked as a peer counseling specialist at the Northeast Independent Living Program. Gerry was an active member of the East Coast International Church in Lynn and Revere, helping with many church projects over the years.
He loved and was loved by many in his Lynn community. Whether you knew Gerry as a Senior in High School or a “senior” in Lynn, or anywhere in between, you remember his fine intellect, his quick wit and his great sense of humor.
Gerry was predeceased by his parents and by his son, Sean Michael McManamy. He is survived by his daughter, Kathryn McManamy (Gardiner) Parker, and granddaughters Charlotte and Lily. He also leaves behind siblings John L. McManamy, Thomas J. McManamy, Lorraine M. Seelaus, Robert A. McManamy and their spouses and children.
A Memorial Gathering at the East Coast International Church will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at 10:00 am. A family service and interment of ashes will be held in Maryland in the Spring, next to his parents. In his memory, please pay forward an act of kindness in your community.
