Mr. George S. Nottingham, age 99, of Lynn, died Thursday evening in Lahey North Shore Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was the beloved husband of Mary R. (Massa) Nottingham, with whom he shared 64 years of marriage.
Born in Lynn, George was the son of the late Alfred and Ann (Brown) Nottingham. He attended Lynn Schools and was a graduate of Lynn English High School Class of 1933. He was a lifelong resident of Lynn. George enlisted in the United States Army in 1942 and proudly served his country during World War II.
Prior to his retirement in 1979, George was employed for over 29 years as a rigger for the GE Riverworks in Building #30. He was a member of the GE Quarter Century Club and the Local 201-UEAFLCIO. He was an excellent handyman around his home.
In addition to his wife, he leaves his son, Stephen G. Nottingham of Lynn. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of Doris “Dolly” Pappas of Amesbury and the late Bertram, Alfred, Thomas and Leon “Jack” Nottingham, Mona Hayward, Hilda Brown, Rita Carlson, Josephine Nottingham and Edna Hunt.
George’s Funeral Service will be held in the CUFFE-MCGINN FUNERAL HOME, 157 Maple St. Lynn on Wednesday at 10:00 AM. Relatives and friends invited. Interment Pine Grove Cemetery.
