George A. Wood Jr., 92, a lifelong resident of Lynn passed away, surrounded by his loving family on Saturday October 12, 2019 at the Wingate in Haverhill after a short illness. George was born on May 8, 1927 in Lynn to his beloved parents the late George A. Wood Sr. and the late Alice M. (Chouinard) Wood. He spent 43 loving years with his wife Mary L. (Connelly) Wood before her passing in 1990.
George soon after marrying the love of his life he was drafted into the Army during WWII, in the Army he rose to a corporal before he left the service in 1947 after the war. After he served his country proud he went on to become a die finisher for Knox Cutting Die where he worked for 23 years before he moved on to Northeast Cutting Die for over 24 years before his retirement in 1990.
George was young at heart and was known for his abundance of joy-filled energy. Even though he used a walker, he was looking to race people down the halls. He had a love for Disney World and would go every year with his family, for his 80th birthday he of course had to go to Disney and get his girls on all the tall rollercoasters with him. He was a fantastic harmonica player, a terrific pool player, and enjoyed riding on his motorcycle.
George was the beloved father of Teda Maes of Merrimac, Dianne Green of Bradford, Kathleen Monteiro of Lynn, Nancy Wood of Bradford; the cherished grandfather of Wendy, Jennifer, Stephanie, Tina, Johnny, Christopher and Marylou and the loving great grandfather of his 22 great grandchildren.
The family will welcome guests Thursday, October 17th from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Cuff McGinn Funeral Home, Lynn, Massachusetts. Funeral services are to follow at 12:00 at the funeral home. Burial following service Swampscott Cemetery, Swampscott, Massachusetts. In lieu of flowers the family is asking for donations to be made in George's memory to West River Hospice, 63 Kendrick St, Needham, MA 02494, or to MSPCA at Nevins Farm, 400 Broadway, Methuen, MA 01844.
