Born April 6, 1916 in East Boston to Amalia (Budriesi) Ottani and Alfonso Ottani, Betty graduated from Lynn Classical High School. She then worked as a secretary at General Electric before marrying George Ring, who predeceased Betty in 1995 after 55 years of marriage. After raising her children, she returned to work in the Building Department at Lynn City Hall, retiring in 1982. Her passions were reading, solving complex crossword puzzles, sewing, and traveling. Above all, Betty’s family always came first. Proud of her Italian Heritage, she loved baking her famous cookies and making traditional tortellini. Betty was a volunteer at St. Mary’s Church where she was a faithful communicant. During her years at Abbott House, Betty participated in any and all activities. The compassionate care she received at Abbott House was a comfort and a blessing to Betty and her family and we shall forever be grateful to the staff of medical professionals there.
She leaves a daughter, Patricia Watson of Swampscott, and her late husband Robert and a son, Richard Ring and his wife Julie of Marblehead. Known as “Nana” to her grandchildren (and all their friends), she leaves Elizabeth Watson, Christine Lander and her husband James, Laura Durant and her husband Scott, Anthony Ring and his wife Katherine, and Jillian Ring and her fiancée Emmanuel Peterson. Known as “Nonnie” to her great-grandchildren, she leaves Brian Hinds, Kara Hinds, Zachary Lander, and newborn Brady Matthew Ring. Betty is also survived by two sisters, Ann Cirenza of Andover, and Jean Carter of Peabody. She was the sister of the late Agnese Ottani, Frank Ottani, Laura Fallon, Mary Ottani, George Ottani and James Ottani. She also leaves many nieces and nephews who were dear to her.
Mrs. Ring’s Funeral will be held from the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, Lynn on Wednesday at 9:30AM. Funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church, Lynn at 10:30AM. Relatives and friends invited. Burial to follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Lynn. Visiting hours in the funeral home Tuesday from 4-7PM. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to Abbott House Activity Fund, 28 Essex Street, Lynn, MA 01902.
