Douglas P. Bilton of Lynn, passed away from a sudden illness of Pneumonia. "Doug", "Coach Doug", "Dougie B", "Dad", and "Papa" grew up in the Golden Hills neighborhood of Saugus and was the definition of a loving, hardworking, kind man and was truly always the life of the party. He had the most wonderful smile that lit up a room. Always there for a friend or even strangers to give a helping hand.
Doug was a great carpenter and loved building things. He spent many years of his life as a Union Carpenter for Local 26. From corn hole boards, and adirondack chairs, to decks and his shed (which was a space that created many memories) he was always building something. He loved traveling with his wife, they were fortunate to visit so many places in their 29 years together. 4 years ago Doug and his wife Leanna bought a vacation home in Conway NH where they met wonderful friends and made incredible memories with family and friends. They were to retire there this November. Doug loved going to the Lake right near the house, spending time in the sun, kayaking, swimming, and fishing. He easily got 10 shades darker by the end of the summer with his strong Italian descent.
We cannot forget to mention how he loved his Boston Sports Teams and seldom missed a game. He could be seen watching the games with family and friends, yelling at the TV thoroughly enjoying it with immense passion and excitement. For the past 9.5 years, Doug worked at YouthBuild North Shore in Salem MA. He truly loved his time there and built great relationships with his students. He had a love and gift for teaching young adults 16-24 carpentry skills, life skills, and was a great Mentor. Spending time with his brother Charlie was also one of the highlights of his life, he loved talking about the old days when they were children and the endless memories they had. His collection of hats was also a love of his, which often came with a wonderful compliment from friends and strangers even when he was traveling.
He left this world far too soon and was loved by so many. He will be truly missed and will never be forgotten. He leaves so many loved ones behind; his beloved wife Leanna who loved him with everything she had and was his best friend and soulmate. His eldest son, Derek Bilton, and his wife AnnMarie, Son Jason Bilton, Daughter Andrea' Rhoades, and her partner Derrick Deveau. Cherished grandchildren Derek and Kyla Bilton, Jason Bilton Jr., and Landon Deveau, Brother Charlie Bilton and his wife Betty Ann, Nephew Justin Bilton and his fiancée Sophie Park, Niece Kelly Bilton and her daughters Jessica and Hallie, and many friends that were family and family that were friends!
He was predeceased by his sister Joan Kent. Doug was loved by so many and will be missed beyond measure. There will be a void that we will always have but thinking about memories we have all made will certainly help with that void.
To honor and remember Doug there will be a Celebration of Life on Sunday, August 18th at 2:00pm. Email arhoades1315@gmail.com for exact address. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to YouthBuild North Shore, 96 Lafayette Street, Salem MA 01970.
