Diane Marie (Watson) Mahoney, age 59, of Saugus, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 13, 2024 in North Reading, after battling several longtime illnesses. Born in Lynn, Diane was the daughter of Donald B Watson Sr. and the late Jeanne (Neikrasz) Watson.
Diane was the devoted mother of Matthew Mahoney, Richard Mahoney Jr., and the late Katelynn Mahoney, the cherished grandmother of Lillian Mahoney, and the dear sister of the late John Watson, the late Pamela Watson and the late Michael Watson. She is survived by her brother Thomas Watson, and his wife Antoinette Watson, and their children, Thomas and Christopher Watson, her brother Donald Watson Jr., and his wife Maureen Watson, and their daughter Grace Watson, and her life long friend and partner in crime, Sue Curtis and her husband Paul Reynolds. She is also survived by several cousins whom all held a special place in Diane’s heart.
Diane grew up in Lynn and graduated from Lynn English High School with the Class of 1982. She worked numerous occupations throughout her life, but she always cherished the role of mother, and later grandmother, above anything else. At various times in her life, Diane made her home in North Carolina, California, New Hampshire and Massachusetts. Diane’s true paradise was Horseshoe Bay, Bermuda which she visited numerous times.
Diane was the glue that kept her family together in the good and also the most trying times. She was an outstanding cook, always ready to serve a small army at a moment’s notice. She perfected many Polish recipes she inherited from her Mom. In her rare downtime, Diane enjoyed visiting different local restaurants, oftentimes with her Dad. She was a regular contributor to Lynn Eats on Facebook, sharing reviews and photographs of her samplings. Diane also participated in medical studies and conferences with Mass General and Brigham and Women’s hospitals to help raise awareness of the rare cardiac issues which impacted the Watson family. She enjoyed traveling the coast of New England, especially enjoying local beaches and lighthouses along her travels.
The Watson Family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the incredible team at All Care Hospice services, especially Karla Olsen and Alison Bonita, for the love and compassion showed to Diane and the entire family
