Dennis James Devine, longtime resident of Beverly, entered into eternal rest on January 19, 2023. He was the son of the late Edward Patrick Devine, Pvt. 1st Class, 66th Infantry “Black Panther” Division U.S. Army, and of the late Eleanor Molligi Devine, and was the brother of the late Edward Ronald Devine all of Lynn.
Dennis leaves one sister Gail Devine Mower of Lynn, one nephew-Godson Sean D. Mower of Epping, NH, his ex-wife Susan Amirault Cassidy, his friend Brian Campbell of Beverly, and many cousins and friends.
Dennis was born in Lynn on July 18, 1950, and lived part of his early life in Lynn and Boston before moving to Beverly. He attended Lynn schools and graduated from the Massachusetts College of Art in Boston with a Bachelor’s Degree. He also attended the Berklee School of Music. As a gifted, talented and accomplished musician, he wrote and performed much of his own original music, and made many CDs, videos and an album. His paintings and art have adorned many homes and businesses. And his original cards under Devine Sunrise have sold in many stores and gift shops. Dennis worked at the Mass. College of Art for many years, and for Channel 2 creating drawings for their animated programs.
Because of his deep desire to help others, later in life Dennis went into the study of natural health and alternative healthcare, and became certified as a muscular therapist. He worked alternately with his music, art, and helping others. He started his own school in Gloucester and worked as an instructor of anatomy and physiology at the Salter School of Therapy. He also alternately worked for Elements Massage Therapy.
Dennis was a devout Catholic Christian, devoted to Our Lady’s Rosary. He was a parishioner of St. Florence Church in Wakefield and the Church of St. Theresa in North Reading where he was invited to join their beautiful choir. Dennis should be remembered for the beauty he has left in this world through his art, music and his love, as all were from his heart and soul. His videos and music can be viewed and listened to online @THE MUSIC OF DENNIS JAMES.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to his family to help with funeral expenses, or in memory of Dennis to St. Florence Parish 47 Butler Street, Wakefield, MA 01880 to be designated in February as The Shrine of the Lazarus Center for Healing.
