Born in Lynn, she was the daughter of the late David W. and Frances (Gaines) McCoy. Davida was a graduate of Lynn English High School Class of 1970. In 1985, she joined the U.S. Army and worked in computer security associated with military intelligence attached to the ISEC. In 1986 she graduated from the Computer Science Institute at Fort Benjamin Harrison in Lawrence, Indiana. In 1992, she graduated from Middlesex Community College with an Associate of Science degree. Davida has worked for the Los Angeles police department at UCLA as a traffic officer as well as the Commerce and Huntington Park Casinos, in Huntington Park, California. She also worked as a machine operator for the Framingham Post Office. She was a member of the Lupus Foundation as well as a member of the Greater Bethlehem Temple Pentecostal Church of Lynn. Davida medically retired from the United States Army in 1988.
Davida enjoyed playing Bingo, once winning $20,000 at a Foxwoods Resort Firecracker Bingo game in 2012. She also liked playing all night card games at Foxwoods, like seven-card stud and poker. She enjoyed family dinners at the Lynn Brotherhood and going out to eat with her husband, especially at Italian and Indian restaurants. She really liked taking cruises and has, with her husband, been to Alaska, Bermuda, the Bahamas, Aruba and Venezuela, sometimes with her grandchildren. On the cruise to Venezuela she and husband Seymour renewed their vows.
In addition to her husband Seymour, Davida is survived by her daughter Florence Mills-Urban and husband Christopher Urban of Lynn; granddaughter Cheyenne K. McPherson; grandsons Chayne A. McPherson and Shelby L. Urban, all of Lynn; siblings Elaine K. Lambert of California, Frances A. Masamba of Haverhill, David W. McCoy, Jr., of Lynn; nieces Patricia Barton of Lynn, Barbara Barton of Lynn, Roberta (Barton) Davis of Lynn, Donna Barton of Lynn, Lelo Masamba of Haverhill, Leonie Masamba-Ndiaye and husband Babacar Ndiaye of Cancun and Georgia, Makiese Masamba of Haverhill, Elizabeth McCoy of Lynn; nephews Buzzy Barton of Lynn, John Coleman of Ohio, David Coleman of California, Jean Masamba of Congo, David McCoy III U.S. Army, Ronsard Masamba of Haverhill, Noe’ Masamba of Haverhill as well as several great nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her sister Florence W. McCoy (Coleman) formerly of California; nieces Lori (Barton) Holiday formerly of Lynn and Anne (Masamba) Soares-Roach formerly of Georgia.
Davida’s Funeral Service will be held at the CUFFE-McGINN FUNERAL HOME 157 Maple St., Lynn on Wednesday June 24, 2015 at 10AM. Interment Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA. Visiting Hours prior to the service beginning at 9AM. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be sent to the Alice O’Neil Challenger Little League, 26 Nichols St., Swampscott, MA 01907 or the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
