David M. Fitzgerald, age 63, retired Lynn Police Officer and lifelong resident of Lynn, passed away at his home on Saturday, April 24, 2021. He was born in Lynn on April 9, 1958, the son of the late Richard A. and Teresa (Howley) Fitzgerald. He was raised and educated in Lynn and graduated from St. Mary’s Class of 1977, where he was captain of the football team. He went on to receive a bachelor’s degree from Boston College, as well as a master’s degree from Anna Maria College. He served the City of Lynn in the Police department for 31 years. David was a dedicated member of the Lynn Yacht Club. An avid outdoorsman and athlete, he thoroughly enjoyed hiking, skiing, fishing, kayaking, running, hunting, and any other pastime which provided him an opportunity to be active outside. In his retirement he added adventure to his repertoire, hiking the Camino de Santiago in Spain with his daughters and sailing in the Caribbean with his brothers. A connoisseur of fine local eats, two of his favorite Lynn haunts were Old Tyme Italian and Pho Minh Ky.
He is survived by his two daughters, Katherine Fitzgerald and Sydney Fitzgerald; his brothers, Richard Fitzgerald and his wife Susan, and Thomas Fitzgerald and his wife Joanne; his cousin Karen Zysk; and his nieces Sarah Fitzgerald and Jessica Fitzgerald. He was predeceased by ex-wife Tracie Fitzgerald in 2015.
Family and friends are invited to attend Mr. Fitzgerald’s visitation on Thursday, May 6, 2021, from 4pm to 8 pm at Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple Street, Lynn, MA, 01904. His funeral will be on Friday, May 7, 2021, at 10:00 AM at St. Pius V Church, 215 Maple Street, Lynn, MA, 01904. In lieu of flowers, donations in David’s memory can be made to the charity of one’s choice.
