Born in Swampscott to the late Martin and Margaret (Donnelly) Thornton. Carolyn graduated from Swampscott High School and later graduated from Regis College where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree, and Boston College earning her Master’s Degree. She also attended Boston University and the University of Illinois for further graduate studies.
Following her education, Carolyn was a member of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Boston for 24 years and taught at Lynn Classical High School.
Carolyn is survived by her husband William Tewksbury; her stepdaughter Mary Johnson; and her step-grandson Thomas Johnson. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her husband Ed Hogan; her stepdaughter Carla Walton; her step-grandson Stephan Johnson; and her siblings Penelope Famulari, Mary Crouse, Marjorie Lawler, Eileen Hughes, and John Thornton.
Carolyn’s visitation will be held on Friday, August 5, 2022 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple Street, Lynn. Her funeral will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2022 at 9:00 AM at the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home and will follow by her Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM at St. Pius V Church, 215 Maple Street, Lynn. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Carolyn’s memory to Sisters of St. Joseph of Boston, www.csjboston.org.
