The world lost an incredible woman on March 8, 2022, when Carol Lydia (Wright) McPherson, 80, of Lynn passed away peacefully at home from ALS. Carol never met a stranger. She was deeply loved by her family, friends, and community. She bravely and graciously transitioned through several phases of ALS, even before the diagnosis was confirmed. Her sense of humor and kindness were one of a kind and irreplaceable.
Carol was born to the late Robert and Muriel Wright. She grew up in Lynn where she attended grade school and high school and was an avid softball player and athlete. She met her husband of almost 60 years, Tom, working at Transitron in Wakefield. It was love at first sight. They married and had three children, Bill, Scott, and Cindi. Carol was an icon in the Lynn Public Schools. She managed the Lincoln-Thomson food service for 36 years. In this role, she served not only as a food distributor, but also as a cheerleader, counselor, confidante, fundraiser, and loyal friend to staff and students at the school. She also attended night school, where she earned her Teacher’s Aide Certificate. She served as a representative for paraprofessionals on the Lynn Teachers Union, actively participating and serving the community until ALS took away her ability to speak.
Carol found great happiness in many of life’s simple pleasures. She enjoyed being with her family and cheering on her children and grandchildren. She was thrilled with the arrival of great grandchildren. She loved trying new restaurants, finding lucky scratch tickets, cheering on sports teams (especially the Patriots), organizing Super Bowl pools, taking trips with friends to Foxwoods, and bowling with the Lucky Ladies at Metro Bowl. Carol was a fun and engaging person to be around. She considered herself lucky to share the ins and out and ups and downs of life with her much beloved husband Tom. The love and caring they displayed everyday of their near 60 years together were exceptional, especially in her final weeks. It brought tremendous peace to her family.
Carol is survived by her husband Tom; son William McPherson and daughter-in-law Michelle of Lynn; son Scott McPherson and daughter-in-law Danielle of Kennebunk, ME; daughter Cindi Melanson and son-in-law AJ of Milton, MA. She leaves a legacy with her grandchildren and great grandchildren: Nicole, Thomas, Courtney, Brittany, Jacob, Caroline, Benjamin, Skylar, and Owen. She is survived by brothers Robert Wright of Lynn, Bryant Wright of Hudson, MA, and sister Alice Ricca of Methuen, MA. She was predeceased by her parents, Robert and Muriel Wright, and brother Glenn Wright of Maine. Carol also leaves extended family and so many wonderful friends who have been such great fun and support to her through the years and through her illness.
Family and friends are invited to attend visitation hours from 4-8pm on Friday, March 11, 2022, at Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple Street, Lynn, MA.
