Born in Lynn, Birdie was the daughter of the late Arthur and Augusta (Sheen) Cunningham. She attended Lynn Schools, was a graduate of Lynn English High School Class of 1934 and later attended Burdett Business School. She was a lifelong resident of Lynn.
Prior to her retirement at the age of 76, Birdie worked for Hoffman’s, previously working for Fannie Farmers and Raymond’s Clothing. She was a former member of the Holy Family Ladies Sodality and a communicant of Saint Pius V Parish. Family was very important to her and she greatly enjoyed the times she spent with them.
She leaves her children, Richard Roach and his wife Sandra of Bonita Springs, FL, John Roach and his wife Susan of Lynnfield, Pamela Scharffenberg of Salem, Timothy Roach and his wife Sandra of Lynn, and Mary Jane Down and her husband Philip of Ellicott City, MD. She was the sister of Josephine Langworthy of Hope Valley, RI. Birdie is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, several great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was sister of the late Florence Cunningham, Mary Ann McGovern, Ora Jane Hoffman, Augusta Hicks and Arthur Cunningham, who was killed in action during World War II.
Birdie’s Funeral will be held from the CUFFE-MCGINN FUNERAL HOME, 157 Maple St. Lynn on Thursday at 8:00AM followed by a Funeral Mass in Saint Pius V Church at 9:00AM. Relatives and friends invited. Interment Saint Joseph’s Cemetery. Visiting Hours Wednesday 4-8PM. Gifts in Birdie’s memory may be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association, 311 Arsenal St. Watertown, MA 02472.
