Born in Lynn, Barbara was the daughter of the late Harold and Catherine (Findlay) Long. She attended Lynn Schools, was a graduate of Lynn English High School and then attended the Lynn Hospital School of Nursing.
Prior to her retirement, she worked as a delivery room nurse at the former Lynn Hospital and taught prenatal classes there for many years. She was a parishioner of St. Joseph’s Church and more recently attended St. Pius V Church. She was a founding member of My Brother’s Table, serving as a member of the Executive Board. She was also a member of the Prayer Group at St. Joseph’s Church for many years.
She leaves her children: Catherine M. Bennett of Wilmington, Kevin P. McManus of Salem, NH, Daniel S. McManus and his wife Joanne of Lynn, Joseph F. McManus and his wife Rochelle of Plaistow, NH, Peter T. McManus and his wife Lisa of Portsmouth, NH, Reverend Paul G.M. McManus, Parochial Vicar of St. John the Baptist Church in Peabody and Immaculate Conception Church in Salem, Mary B. Diamantides and her husband Christopher of North Reading, Brigid M. Florence and her husband Charles of Salem, Jean C. Brockmyre and her husband Kevin of Amesbury and Ann M. Robinson and her husband Gary of Lynn. Also survived by 21 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Robert Long and Jean Morris.
Barbara’s Funeral will be held from the CUFFE-MCGINN FUNERAL HOME, 157 Maple St. Lynn on Friday at 10:00AM followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Pius V Church at 11:00AM. Relatives and friends invited. Interment will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Lynn. Visiting Hours Thursday 4-8PM. In lieu of flowers, the family strongly suggests gifts in Barbara’s memory be sent to the St. John the Baptist Capital Campaign for Handicap Accessibility, 17 Chestnut St. Peabody, MA 01960.
