Born in Columbia, SC, Albert was the son of the late James E. and Lois (Bell) Powell. He was raised in South Carolina and came to Lynn in 1963, where he resided for most of his life.
He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1942 and served during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He also took part in the Blockade of Cuba. After 21 ½ years of service, Albert retired from the Navy with the rank of BM2.
Prior to his retirement in 1988, he worked as a color matcher for Vernon Plastic Company and later became supervisor for the Lynn Plastics Company.
He was a late member of the Lynn Elks. An avid sports fan, Albert enjoyed all Boston sports, especially baseball and he always rooted for the hometown team.
He leaves his children, Jack Powell of Peabody, Linda Ham of Denver, CO, Lois Arrison of Engelwood, CO, Sandra Cameron of Lynn and Ellie Wilson of Belton, SC. He was the brother of Everett Powell and Ellie Barnes both of Anderson, SC. Also survived by 7 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late James and Elridge Powell, Mildred Hawkins and Katherine Powell.
His Funeral Service will be held in the CUFFE-MCGINN FUNERAL HOME, 157 Maple St. Lynn on Thursday at 11:00AM. Relatives and friends invited. Visitation prior to the Service beginning at 9:00AM. Interment Puritan Lawn Memorial Park. Gifts in his memory may be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association, 311 Arsenal St. Watertown, MA 02472.
