William “Bill” Emmett Willoughby, 80, of Lynchburg, passed away Friday, May 26, 2017 at Guggenheimer Nursing Home. Twice married, he was the husband of Cecilia “Bianca” Serrano Willoughby and the late Mary Ellen Templeton Willoughby. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
Born March 13, 1937 in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late Emmett and Virginia Hendrick Willoughby and was also preceded in death by his daughter, Tina M. Willoughby; two brothers, Claytor L. Willoughby and Ronnie L. Willoughby and a step son, Jansen Stanley. Bill was retired from General Electric with twenty-five years of service and was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, Bill is survived by his son, W. Douglas Willoughby and wife Pamela; a step daughter, Rhonda M. Stanley; two sisters, Joe Ann W. Stone and husband Joe, all of Lynchburg and Virginia W. Feidt and husband, Richard of Bedford; eight grandchildren, Travis Willoughby, Megan Brown, Jason Willoughby, Makayla Spruce, Devon Spruce, Caidyn Tyree, Peyton Tyree, and Landon Stanley; six great grandchildren, Hunter and Hayden Brown and Matteo, Luca, and Roman Willoughby and nieces and nephews, Debbie Vanness, Pandora Jackson, Laura Willoughby, Claytor Willoughby, Jr., Tammy Willoughby, and Ricky Feidt.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with Pastor Carlton Duck officiating. Interment with military honors by Altavista American Legion Post 36 and Gretna Post 32 will follow at Virginia Memorial park in Forest.
The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:00 p.m., Monday, May 29, 2017 at the funeral home and other times at the residence.
