He was born in Nelson County on November 27, 1933, son of the late Walter E. Johnson and Josephine C. Johnson.
Walter was a member of Flat Creek Baptist Church and retired from Lynchburg Foundry. After his retirement, he worked for a number of years for Food Lion. He enjoyed working in his yard and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 40 years, Marie F. Johnson; two sisters, Betty Marie Sprouse and Sylvia Johnson Johnson and a brother, Ernest Carrol Johnson.
Survivors include a son, Greg W. Johnson; a daughter, Karen Martinez; a brother Ray Johnson and a sister, Sandra Weast. He is also survived by four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Thursday, June 2, 2022 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel where a celebration of life will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, June 3, 2022 with Pastor Earnest Carey officiating. Burial will follow at Childrey Baptist Church Cemetery.
