Born in Lynchburg, Theresa was the daughter of Alfred Ray Mawyer and Betty Ayers Mawyer. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, whose legacy of love and strength will forever be cherished.
Theresa is survived by, Heath Mawyer and his wife, Casie, and their three sons who lovingly called her "Grams": Dallas Ray Mawyer, Preston McCoy Mawyer, and Tulsa Ry Mawyer. She is also survived by her sister, Melisa Mawyer; her brother, Stan Mawyer; and her nephews, Troy Mawyer (Olive) and Kris Mawyer (Amy).
Theresa had a deep love for children, and early in her career, she worked at an early learning center and as a substitute teacher for Campbell County Public Schools. Her compassionate spirit and dedication to helping others shone through in all she did.
She faced the challenges of Multiple Sclerosis with remarkable strength and determination, earning the admiration of all who knew her. Theresa was often described as strong, determined, and inspirational, qualities that she embodied throughout her life. A passionate Dallas Cowboys fan, Theresa was also a devoted admirer of "The Duke," John Wayne, and never missed an opportunity to express her admiration for him.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to her neighbors and friends who supported her throughout her journey, providing care, companionship, and kindness.
A service celebrating Theresa’s life will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, December 9, 2024, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel, with Pastor Bobby Brumfield officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
In honor of Theresa's love for others, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Parkview Mission, a ministry that helps clothe and feed those in need.
Theresa’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
