Born on January 14, 1963 in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of Nancy Anne Schley Crist and the late Richard William Crist. Sharon worked as a school nurse for New London Academy and loved her fellow co-workers and students. She also enjoyed camping, reading, going to the beach, and was an avid Hokie fan. Sharon’s passion was helping others and that was evident in her loving and devoted support of her children and grandchildren, who called her Nanny. She also loved her dogs and animals. Sharon was an active member of Mead Memorial United Methodist Church.
In addition to her father, she is preceded in death by her brother, Ricky Crist and father-in-law, Dewey Rakes.
Sharon is survived by her husband, David Rakes; two daughters, Emily Woody and husband Eddie and Kayla Rakes; three grandchildren, Alexa Woody, Alayna Woody, and Wyatt Woody; her sister, Carolyn Burgess and husband Titus; mother-in-law, Barbara Rakes; and numerous other family members and friends.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at Mead Memorial United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends following the service.
