Ruth was born in Springfield, Missouri, December 26, 1932. She was the daughter of the late Elton B. Forbes and Elvira Gayle Forbes. She attended Columbia Bible College and finished her Bachelor’s degree in counseling at Liberty University and later finished her MA degree. She served as a counselor for the Liberty Godparent Home where she had the privilege of placing 242 adoptive babies into the arms of new parents. She also taught the class in “Women’s Ministry” at the Liberty University School of Religion.
She was preceded in death by her son, Stephen (Sam) Towns.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Deborah Jean Barnard and her husband Roy of Altavista and Polly R. Wooldridge and her husband Tyree of Forest; her daughter-in-law, Karen Towns of Forest; 10 grandchildren, Tammy Adams, Amy Harler, Beth Hofstadter, Kim Wooldridge, Collyn Towns, Brad Towns, Kristin Cox, Bryce Harker, Star Manion and Ace Barnard and four great grandchildren.
A service celebrating her life will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 14, 2013 at Thomas Road Baptist Church, Pate Chapel with Pastor Jonathan Falwell officiating. Interment will follow at the Liberty University Founder’s Circle.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, December 13, 2013 at the the church.
