Ruth Katherine Bernard Freeman, 91, of Bedford County, died Saturday, December 4, 2010, at the Bedford County Nursing Home. She was the loving wife of 69 years to the late James Alfred Freeman, Jr. Born December 21, 1918, in Campbell County, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Robert Thomas Bernard and Annie Mae Dudley Bernard.
Mrs. Freeman was a retired food service technician for Central Virginia Training Center, and a member of Fairview United Methodist Church.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Freeman is preceded in death by five brothers, Thomas, Elmer, James, Joseph and Linwood Bernard.
Mrs. Freeman is survived by one son, Robert E. Bernard of Clermont, FL; two daughters, Marguerite Hubbard of Forest and Linda Ramsey and her husband, William also of Forest; three grandchildren, Michael W. Hubbard and his wife, Tracy of Vinton, Richard H. Hubbard of Lynchburg and Kimberly A. Barone and her husband Kevin of Forest.; seven great-grandchildren, Taylor, Spenser, Aaron, Michaela and Ethan Hubbard of Vinton, Richard Hubbard of Lynchburg and Hannah Ruth Barone of Forest; two half-sisters, Betty Floyd of Rustburg and Brenda Short of Altavista; and one niece, Mary Kovack.
A funeral service will be conducted, 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 6, 2010, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with Pastor Kathy Nicholls of Englewood Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends, 3-5 p.m., Sunday, December 5, 2010, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.
