Born on August 12, 1949 in Virginia, he was the son of the late Dewey E. and Mary M. Youngblood.
Rick proudly served his country in the United States Navy, dedicating 30 faithful years of service and retiring with the esteemed rank of Chief Petty Officer. His devotion to his country was matched only by his love for his family and friends. A proud father, husband, grandfather, and uncle, Rick leaves behind a legacy of kindness, humor, and selflessness.
Rick was an extraordinary husband to his beloved wife, Cyndi. Together, they were not only partners in life but also the best of friends and true soulmates. Their bond was one built on love, respect, and unwavering support for one another.
Outside of his family and military service, Rick found peace and joy in the simple pleasures of life. He enjoyed spending time by the water and being outdoors, where he could relax and reflect. He also took great pride in cutting the grass, a task he found both satisfying and grounding. He was an avid golfer and he enjoyed playing golf whenever he had the chance. He took numerous golf trips and motorcycle trips over the years with his son and friends.
Rick was an amazing friend, always ready to lend a helping hand. He had a remarkable sense of humor and was an excellent storyteller, often making others laugh with his quick wit and charming personality. His ability to brighten the lives of those around him will never be forgotten.
He is survived by his wife, Cyndi Youngblood; son, Ricky Dewey Youngblood III (Tonya); grandchildren, Baileigh “Boo” Youngblood and Justin Youngblood; godchildren, Jasmine, Clay and Chloe; brother, Mike Youngblood; special nephew, Justin Kirby and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to Rick’s caregivers—Barbara, Taylor, and Bridgett—whose kindness and care meant so much. In addition, we are especially grateful to two caregivers who were with Rick the longest, offering unwavering support and love: Rose and Terri.
Rose brought not only her wealth of experience but also an abundance of love to Rick’s life. She would engage him in conversations as if he could join in, creating a sense of connection and warmth. Terri, who has been with the family the longest, has been a constant source of support. She would take long weekends to give Cyndi the respite she so deeply needed. Over time, Terri became like family, adopted by Cyndi and Rick as their niece, a testament to the bond they shared.
A celebration of Rick’s life will be held on Thursday, April 10, 2025 at 7:00 p.m. at Compassion Church of the Nazarene officiated by Pastor Stephen Willis and Pastor Clay Bryan. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, starting at 6:00 p.m. at the church. Military Honors will be provided by American Legion Post 16.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to one of Rick and Cyndi’s favorite charities, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, www.stjude.org or Dementia Society of America, www.dementiasociety.org/.
