Born in Plasterco, Virginia, June 26, 1938, he was the son of the late Turner Noah Puckett and Chloe Counts Puckett.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sister, Kathy Phlegar and her husband Dan; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Barbara and Paul Greene, and Frances and Howard Zuckerman and a number of nieces and nephews.
Reginald grew up in Pearisburg, Virginia and graduated from the University of Richmond with a degree in Chemistry and earned a PhD in Physical Organic Chemistry from the University of Illinois. He worked for eight years and decided to pursue a career in medicine. He earned his medical doctorate from the University of Chicago. He served his residency at the Cornell Medical Center in New York City and specialized in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Dr. Puckett operated in private practice in New York for about twenty years. After closing his practice, he moved to Ellsworth, Maine where he practiced for another nine years and in 2014 he and his wife moved to Lynchburg where he has been practicing at the Johnson Health Center. He loved being a good doctor and help people with his expertise. Some people called him doctor and others called him Reg, but to everyone, he was a deeply caring, special man.
Dr. Puckett and his wife maintain a membership at the Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church in New York and attend St. John’s Episcopal Church in Lynchburg. Music was a passion for him over the years and he enjoyed participating in the choir’s of the churches he attended. He also played the piano, the oboe, clarinet and the organ. Cycling was also an activity that he was drawn to. While in New York, he participated in a number of biking events including a 100-mile ride from the City to Long Island.
An inurnment service will be scheduled at a later date at the Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church in New York.
