Nancy was born in Martinsville, Virginia, July 26, 1931, to the late John Wofford and Garnett Tatum and was also preceded in death by her brothers, Richard E. Tatum, William W. Tatum, Abram P. Tatum, Wilson Tatum, E. Kerr Tatum, Thomas P. Tatum, Robert H. Tatum, and sister, Garnett Lee Tatum. Nancy was member of Pleasant View Baptist Church and retired from Bedford County School Food Services and Atco Products in Forest.
She is survived by three children, Nancy Delois “Dee” Washburn, Edgar Minter “Eddie” Washburn, Jr. and his wife Denise, and Teresa Gale Washburn, all of Forest; three grandchildren, Nathan Edgar Washburn and his wife Stefanie, Jessica Renee Washburn, Maria Katelynn Washburn and one great-grandchild, Kaily Lynn Washburn. Also surviving are her twin brother David Moore Tatum of Martinsville; in-laws, Lois Tatum, Arlene Tatum, Barbara Tatum, Doris Washburn, Clarence Hopkins, Vivian Turner, Bernice Fultcher, Troy and Ann Washburn; cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. She is also survived by two special children, Julie Irby of Phoenix, AZ and Justin Keith of Forest.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, November 19, 2011 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with the Rev. Phillip W. Bailey and Dr. J. Monty Fox officiating. Interment will follow at Virginia Memorial Park in Forest. A reception will follow the burial at Mt. View United Methodist Church in the fellowship hall, 1077 Viewpoint Lane, Forest, Virginia.
Visitation will be held at Whitten’s Timberlake Chapel prior to the service from 11:30 a.m.-12:45 p.m.
The family would like to express their appreciation for the care received by the staff of Centra’s Emergency department, STICU, Dr. Albert Baker, East Tower 4th Floor, Radiology, Lab, Respiratory Care, PT/OT, Centra Specialty Hospital and Dr. Kalafian.
The family would also like to thank everyone for all the phone calls, emails, thoughts, prayers, and visits during this time of illness and loss. Mom was a cherished Mother, Wife, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Aunt, and special friend to many whom she loved as family. She loved spending time with her family and friends and will be deeply missed by all.
