Miriam Smith Woody, 88, of Lynchburg, died Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the wife of the late Earl L. Woody. Born September 13, 1922 in Hat Creek, she was the daughter of the late Moton Smith and Margaret Tanner Smith.
Mrs. Woody was a retired clerk for Revco/CVS where she served for over 30 years, and she was also an active and lifelong member of Fairview Christian Church, where she was devoted to the Loyal Sons and Daughters Class. She was loved by many and her family called her a cheerful giver. “Gyn” will be greatly missed by all and especially by her grand pets, Ebony, Cooper and Missy.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Woody is preceded in death by a loving sister, Phyllis Childress and four brothers, Marvin, John T., William and Leon Smith.
Mrs. Woody is survived by two daughters, Earleen Burford of Lynchburg and Linda Perry of Atlanta, GA; three grandchildren, Tia and Tyler Burford and Graham Perry; two sisters, Adele Crews of Madison Heights and Ruth Holt of Virginia Beach; two brothers, Larry and Lyle Smith, both of Virginia Beach; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted, 1:00 p.m., Monday, December 6, 2010 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with the Rev. D. Jack Hamilton officiating. Entombment will take place at Fort Hill Memorial Park Mausoleum.
The family will receive friends, 4:00-6:00 p.m., Sunday, December 5, 2010, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel and at other times at the residence.
In addition to flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Fairview Christian Church, 2701 Campbell Ave., Lynchburg, VA 24501.
