Born October 26, 1922 in Appomattox County, she was the daughter of the late Willie B. and Nettie Ferguson McCormick and was also preceded in death by four brothers, Charles, Elwood, Dick, and Mott McCormick; two sisters, Loraine Guill and Louise Goding and a grandson, Marcus Trent.
Mattie was retired from G.E. after twenty-two years of service. She was a faithful member of Fairview Christian Church, where she attended the Loyal Sons & Daughters Class, and Women’s Fellowship Club. She enjoyed singing with the Day Spring Singers at her church as they visited nursing homes and the shut-ins throughout the Lynchburg area. Mattie was also a devoted member of the Lynchburg Christian Womens Club for more than twenty years. She also belonged to the Rebekah organization in Lynchburg. She loved to travel, was a wonderful cook and found great joy working in her yard, but decorating for Christmas was a passion of hers.
Mattie was blessed with many loving and caring friends, whom she enjoyed traveling, visiting, and sharing birthdays with. Anyone who knew Mattie remembers her as a southern lady who was always impeccably dressed. More than anything, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.
Special thanks to the Centra Hospice Team, especially her nurse, “Angel”, Jessica.
Mrs. Martin survived by her son, Roger Martin and wife Debbie of Concord; her daughter, Debora M. Trent and husband Roger of Monroe; a sister, Helen Scott of Appomattox; three grandchildren, Amanda Trent Bowers (Chris), Candy Trent Mercer (T.J.), and Ryan T.
