Born in Bedford County, September 9, 1923, she was a daughter of the late Walter David Colbert and Eddie Wilkes Colbert Floyd. She was a longtime member of Park View United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by; one son whom she loved very much, George “Bennie” Ricketts; three brothers, James N. Colbert, Paul E. Colbert and Odell “Toad” Padgett; two sisters, Lucille C. Wood and Doris P. Gardner.
She is survived by four children, John W. Gardner and his wife Kelly, Christina M. Glynn and her husband Dennis, Pattie J. Silverthorn and her husband Michael and Raymond F. Gardner and his wife Melissa; one sister, Thelma Bell; seven grandchildren, Kellie T. Glynn, Jessica D. Glynn, Andrew D. Gardner, Elizabeth H. Silverthorn, Joseph P. Silverthorn, Elijah O. Gardner and Abigal L. Gardner; two nieces, Connie Hall and Susan Padgett and very special friends, John and Elizabeth Harris and their daughter Tara.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 13, 2013 at Whitten Park Avenue Chapel with the Rev. Bill Price officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, May 12, 2013 at the funeral home.
