Born in Altavista, she was the daughter of the late James Elmo Yeatts and the late Lota Graves Yeatts. In addition to her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, John Andrew “Andy” Slocum; three sisters, Kyle Elliott, Hazel Bonnette and Arva Leigh and three brothers, James Elmo Yeatts, Jr., Warren Yeatts and Arnett Yeatts.
Lynda was a graduate of Madison College (now James Madison University), when she was selected to Who’s Who in American Universities and Colleges and she received her Masters degree in Education at the University of Virginia. She taught school at Chuckatuck, Virginia, Gretna, Arlington and Altavista. She was very active in area golf, playing out of Oakwood Country Club. She was a member of the Virginia State Golf Association and Westminster Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Susan S. Miles and her husband, Scott, of Richmond; one sister, Charlotte Weathers of Roanoke Rapids, N.C.; one granddaughter, Monica Miles of Richmond and a special niece, Carolyn Coleman of Lynchburg.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 3, 2013, at Westminster Presbyterian Church with the Reverend William Russell and the Reverend Doctor George F. Coleman, Jr., officiating. Interment will follow in Presbyterian Cemetery.
The family will receive friends after the service in the church Fellowship Hall.

Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1022 Floyd St., Lynchburg, VA 24501.
