Larry Gene Bowen

Larry Gene Bowen, 59, of Lynchburg, passed away Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at The Summit. Born May 7, 1956 in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late Charles Leigh Bowen and Rena Elizabeth Wright Bowen. Larry was a graduate of E.C. Glass High School and received his Bachelor’s Degree from Liberty University. He devoted his life in service to others, he was a retired Registered Nurse with Centra Health, where he worked in the Emergency Room and in the Stroke Step Down Unit at Lynchburg General Hospital and was a life member of the Campbell County Rescue Squad. Larry was a veteran of the Virginia Army National Guard and was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church. Larry is survived by two children, Teegen Serabeth Bowen and William Michael Alexander Bowen, both of Roanoke; his brother, Jimmy Bowen and wife Laura of Evington; his sister, Dee Dee Soyars of Lynchburg; a nephew, Eric Bowen and wife Carla and a niece, Hannah Soyars. A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Friday, October 2, 2015 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with the Rev. Wayne Lanham officiating. Interment with military honors by American Legion Post 16will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:30 p.m., Thursday, October 1, 2015 at the funeral home.
