Katherine Bruffy Ripley, 92, of Rustburg, went home to be with her LORD and Savior, Thursday, December 28, 2023. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 55 years, Earl O. Ripley. Born June 28, 1931 in Campbell County, she was the daughter of the late William W. Bruffy and Maggie Claytor Bruffy.
Katie worked at Lynchburg Hosiery Mill before starting her family. She then became a homemaker enjoying her children, neighborhood children, and nieces and nephews. As her family grew, she continued caring for her grandchildren whom she loved dearly. Katie was a longtime member of Whites United Methodist Church where she taught Vacation Bible School and shared her beautiful alto voice in the choir.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by eight siblings, Steller Pearl Bruffy, Beulah B Bruffy, Viola B. Millner, George W. Bruffy, William (Billy) Bruffy, James Hamlet Bruffy, Enise B Shipwash, Marjorie B Hanger. Katie is survived by five children, Debbie Haile (Tom) of Forest, Randy Ripley (Michelle) of Rustburg, Sharon Inge (Dave) of Concord, Teresa Reese (Tony) of Madison Heights, and Danny Ripley (Peepsie) of Bedford. She is also survived by a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, step grandchildren, step great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was blessed by a large family and loved by many.
The family will welcome friends on Saturday, December 30, 2023 and Sunday December 31, 2023, between 10 am and 5 pm at Katies' home, 412 Greenhouse Road, in Rustburg. The family will also receive friends on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, between 12 pm and 2 pm at Whitten Timberlake Chapel in Lynchburg. A service of Celebration of Life will be held at 2 pm at Whitten Timberlake Chapel after the visitation. Burial will be at Whites United Methodist Church. Pastors Ben Burks and Steven Ramsey will be officiating.
