Julian Harrison Fielder , 89 of Lynchburg, was called home to be with the Lord Friday, August 19, 2011. He was the husband of Lillian Gertrude Harry Fielder. Born April 7, 1922 in Amherst County, he was a son of Herbert Harrison Fielder and Ethel Lucille Shaner Fielder.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Fielder is proceeded in death by daughter-in-law Barb P. Fielder, brother, Herbert Fielder, Jr.; sisters Doris Stepp, Inez Evans, and Boots Duval.
Mr. Fielder was a veteran of World War II serving in the United States Army from January 17, 1941 until January 5, 1946. As a member of the 241st Engineers, he rose to the rank of Sergeant serving in the Pacific Theater. Mr. Fielder was awarded the American Defense Ribbon, Aisatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and Victory Medal.
Mr. Fielder and Lillian settled in the Baltimore, Md. area after discharge from the Army and lived there until 1969 when he moved back to Lynchburg where he owned and operated the Timberlake Dairy Queen (now named Koffee Kup) until his retirement in 1974. He was an active member of Timberlake Baptist Church until his declining health limited his activities. Family and friends will remember Mr. Fielder for his wit and humor, always seeming to have a joke or funny story to share.
He is survived by seven children, Gerald Alan Fielder of Lynchburg, Karen Lynn Kates and husband Bob of Baltimore, Sonja Lee Allen and husband Doyle of Forest, Keith Maurice Fielder of Germany, Janet Elaine Fielder and Guy Burnette of Lynchburg, Joyce Ann Harker and husband Lewis of Lynchburg, Greg Thomas Fielder and wife Daneen of Winchester, 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Monday August 22, 2011 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel from 7PM until 9 PM.
A funeral service will be held at Timberlake Baptist Church on Tuesday August 23, 2011 at 4 PM conducted by Rev. Bryan Ferrell. Internment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park. Military honors by American Legion Post #16.
