Joyce Rice Stone

Joyce Rice Stone, born in Lynchburg, VA, on October 14, 1930, to her parents Willie Austin Rice and Elsie Sandifer Rice, passed away on June 24, 2024, in Lynchburg, VA. She is survived by her niece Carolyn Adams (Ray), cousin Julie Banton (Mike), and numerous great-nieces, nephews, and cousins. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Joseph B. (JB) Rice, and her husband James (Jim) Stone. Joyce had a passion for mowing grass on her John Deere tractor, gardening, and taking care of cattle. She was the Treasurer of the Virginia Walking Racking Horse Association and a member of the Rustburg Eastern Star for over 70 years. Additionally, she was a dedicated member of the Rustburg Presbyterian Church and worked as a bookkeeper for Rice Electric Company on D Street in Lynchburg, VA. A graveside service will be held on Friday, June 28, 2024, at Fort Hill Memorial Park, Fort Ave., in Lynchburg, VA, at 10 am with Terri Cromwell officiating. Special thanks to her caregivers Tina, Kim, Kimberly, Renita, and her special friend who helped her farm, David Jones. Whitten Timberlake Chapel is assisting the family.
