Obituary of John Rinsland Wood Jr.
John Wood, Jr. 69, of Lynchburg , passed away Saturday, September 1, 2012 at his residence after a long illness. He was the loving husband of Esther Ayers Nance Wood. “Jack” was a beloved husband, son, father, brother and grandfather. Born January 9, 1943 in Lynchburg , he was a son of Frances Powell Wood and the late John Rinsland Wood Sr. He was preceded in death by his devoted and adoring “best friend” his pet Elmo Edgar Eugene Wood. Jack was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He started his work career as vice president of Garrett Sales Agency, he was founder and owner of SanTan Leather and later was a self employed marketing consultant with Personalized Marketing Communications, past president of the Lynchburg Jaycees, and a member of Randolph Memorial Baptist Church. In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by four sons, John (Trey) Rinsland Wood, III. Adam Kenyon Wood and his wife, Lynne, Courtney Alexander Nance, Justin Patrick Nance and wife, Erin; sister, Phyllis Beilfus and husband, Bob; grandchildren, Megan Michelle Wood, Kimberly Wood, Renie Wood, and Adam Wood, II. and former wife and friend, Sandra Hopkins Wood. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m., Tuesday, September 4, 2012, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel and other times at the residence. A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 5, 2012, at the funeral home conducted by the Rev. Derik Hamby. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park with military honors by American Legion Post #16.
