John Harvey Richardson Sr., age 73 of Rustburg, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at his home. He was born September 28, 1950, in Appomattox, to the late Fred Junior Richardson and Susie Thompson Richardson, who survive him. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his baby brother, Franklin Eugene.
John was a truck driver for both Harris Trucking and Cunningham Brothers for over 40 years. His greatest joy was spending time with his family. He was a hard worker who loved being outdoors working in his yard, garden and working in his shop. He loved westerns, antique cars, and car shows.
John is survived by his loving and caring wife, Sherry of 52 years; his 95 year old mother, Susie Thompson Richardson; his two sons, whom he was very proud of, John Richardson Jr (Kimberly) of Gretna, VA, and Wesley Keith Richardson (Haile) of Indian Trail, NC; two brothers Claude “Pete” Richardson (Linda) of Covington, Va, Fred Richardson of Evington, Va; four grandchildren Kaitlin, Jayden, Abigail and Xander; four great-grandchildren; and several special nieces, nephews, and cousins; and a very close friend (almost like a brother) of over 50 years, Ronnie Cowart.
A Celebration of John’s life will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, April 29, 2024, at Yellow Branch Baptist Church, 8395 Wards Road, Rustburg, Va 24588, by Reverend Tim Wilde with burial to follow at Cumbie Memorial Cemetery, 286 Rocky Road, Rustburg, Va. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the church. The family will receive visitors at the residence all other times.
