It is with great sadness that the family of John David McCanless (74) of Lynchburg, VA announces that he has left his worldly body and has passed into the loving arms of Jesus. Johnny / Papa John was a man of many hats - he served in the Navy, he worked as a Firefighter, Bus Driver, and Security Guard, he even studied seminary. His most impactful work however, was in a posture of surrender; sharing Christ’s love as His faithful servant and devoted Prayer Warrior. He believed in the power of prayer and we ask for prayers as we continue our journey without him. He will be greatly missed.
He leaves behind:
3 children, Patrick McCanless, Jason McCanless (Holly), & Steven McCanless (Harmony)
9 grandchildren, Lilian, Elijah, Leah, Hannah, Margaret, Judah, Adeline, Alaina, & Luke
4 siblings, Pat McCanless (Joe), Frances McCanless, Mary Campbell (Danny), Edgar Boyles
Whitten Timberlake Chapel, 7404 Timberlake Road Lynchburg, will hold a visitation on Saturday January 13, 2024, at 10 am, followed by a memorial service at 11 am.
