John Daniel Ashby

Born on March 26, 1944 in Amelia County, he was the son of the late Willie and Ethel Ashby

Johnny retired from Weyerhaeuser. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was also a wonderful and caring husband, father, and Papa, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Frank Ashby and two sisters, Shirley Ashby and Hazel Davis.

In addition to his wife Phyllis, he is survived by his two sons, Jeffrey Ashby and wife Teresa of Rustburg and David Ashby and wife Wendy of Rustburg; his five grandchildren, Jeffrey Pennington and wife Shannon, RJ Malott and wife Lauren, Nick Malott and fiancé Lindsay Mayberry, Zane Ashby, and Colton Ashby; his great granddaughter, Sasha Taylor and he has another great grandchild on the way; his brothers, Jessie Ashby and Betty Massey and William Ashby; his sisters, Nannie Tidwell and Dorothy Bohannon; a brother-in-law, Harold Catlett and wife Alice; a sister-in-law, Regina Ashby; and special dog, “Little Bit”.

A celebration of life service will be held at 6 PM on Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with Celebrant Polly Starnes officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
