Born June 6, 1926 in Elizabethton, TN, he was the son of the late Charles Garfield and Ida Ellis Hicks and was also preceded in death by two sisters, Pauline Elliott and Florence Jennings. Mr. Hicks was retired from the U.S. Navy, where he served during World War II. Mr. Hicks was Chief Commander of the Honey Fitz and the Patrick J, which were the Presidential Yachts of John F. Kennedy. Mr. Hicks was also retired from the City of Lynchburg, Juvenile Detention Center. He attended Southview United Methodist Church.
Mr. Hicks is survived by one daughter, Kitty Hicks and husband Shad Fuller; one son, Jeff Hicks and his wife Linda, all of Lynchburg; three brothers, Abner Hicks and wife Sue of Jonesboro, TN, Bob Hicks and wife Shirley and Harold Hicks; one sister, Bonnie Stout and husband Harold, all of Elizabethton, TN; two grandchildren, Jarred Lambert of Lynchburg and Leah Strickland and husband Travis of Lillington, NC; three great-grandchildren, Hailey Lambert, Chelsea Strickland, and Taylor Strickland and many special friends, including, Phil Brooks, Jimmy Stewart, Ronnie Mayberry, and Betty Jo Cunningham.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Melvin H. Campbell officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at the funeral home and other times at the residence.
