Ida Mae Leebrick Wright, 92, of Lynchburg, passed away on Tuesday, January 9, 2024 at Lynchburg General Hospital.
Ida was a loving mother, grandmother, wife, sister, daughter, and aunt. She graduated from nursing school in Roanoke, Virginia, and dedicated her life to her profession. After retiring from Central Virginia Training Center, Ida served on the board of directors for the Miller Home for Girls for many years and continued her support for the Home for years after she stepped down from the board. Ida enjoyed spending time in her kitchen lovingly preparing meals and baking her world-famous pound cake. Ida was a prominent member of Chestnut Hill Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, Morris Owen Wright, Jr.
Ida is survived by her three children; daughter, Kimberly Wheeler and her husband, Kyle; sons, Morris O. Wright, III and wife, Melinda, and Michael Kelly Wright; four dearly loved grandchildren, Stephanie Jamerson and husband Chris, Brittany Higley and husband Knox, Morris O. Wright, IV, Lindsey Wright; and her newest bright light, great granddaughter, Hunter Mae Higley. Other much loved and cherished family includes; Kendra Meeks and husband Vern and children, Kelly Mattox and husband Greg and children, Melinda Gregory and husband Frank and children, and Tommy Booker and wife Cindy and son.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to the staff and caregivers at Lynchburg General Hospital for their wonderful care and support during Ida’s brief illness.
The family will welcome relatives and friends for a visitation at Whitten Funeral Home at 7404 Timberlake Road on Sunday, January 14, from 3 p.m. to 4p.m. The funeral service will follow at 4:00 p.m. Private interment will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests you consider a memorial contribution to Chestnut Hill Baptist Church, 5225 Fort Avenue, Lynchburg, VA 24502; Miller Home for Girls, 2134 Westerly Drive, Lynchburg, VA 24501; and Lynchburg Humane Society, 1211 Old Graves Mill Road, Lynchburg, VA 24502.
