Born October 20, 1930 in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late Alexander Zane and Allie Grishaw Austin and sibling to six brothers, Ernest, Walter, Fred, Harry, Clyde, and Herman and three sisters, Alease, Ruth, and Beulah. He was retired from the Central Virginia Training Center, was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, and was a member of Thomas Road Baptist Church.
Mr. Austin is survived by his son, Kendall W. Austin and wife Ann of Fincastle; four grandchildren, Angela-Brynn Lawrence and husband, William of Lynchburg, Hollie Christina Stutler and husband, Caleb of West Virginia, Elizabeth Ann Young and husband, James and Katherine Lynn Austin, all of Fincastle and three great-grandchildren, William Lawrence, III, Eleanor Ann Burke Lawrence, and Kendall Marie Young.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with the Rev. Jonathan Falwell officiating. Interment with military honors by American Legion Post 16 will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, at the funeral home, for one hour prior to the service, beginning at 12:00 p.m.
