Born in Long Island, New York, April 30, 1956, he was the son of the late Henry E. Grattan, II and Gertrude Sedar Grattan.
Henry drove down to Lynchburg in 1974 in his racing green Karmann Ghia to attend Lynchburg College where he played baseball. After graduating, he decided to make Lynchburg his home. Henry started his career at James River Beverage for a number of years, later enjoyed a successful career in sales for WSET and retired from marketing with the Craft Family. He was also an avid golfer and enjoyed winning tournaments whenever he had an opportunity to play. He was a very sociable person, easily befriending those around him, never knowing a stranger. He was a loving and dedicated son, partner, father and grandfather.
He is survived by; two daughters, Brooke Mary-Grattan Collins (Michael) of Dallas, TX and Abby Grattan Cronkite (Walter) of Alexandria; his life partner of 30 years, Sandra Harris of Lynchburg; four grandchildren, Blake Collins and Bowen Collins, Wyntje Cronkite and Leland Cronkite, and his brother, Patrick Grattan (Martina) and their daughter, Annabel.
A celebration of Henry’s life will be held at the London Downs Golf Club pavilion on Saturday, September 23, 2023 from 5 to 7 p.m. Friends and family are invited to come together to honor his memory and share their stories.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Friends of Campbell County Animal Control or the Bedford County Sheriff’s Department in Henry’s name, as a way to continue his legacy of giving and compassion.
