Born in Lynchburg, March 15, 1935, she was the daughter of the late John Ernest Roakes and Ellen Rebecca Bryant Roakes.
She graduated from E.C. Glass High School and was employed at Westminster Canterbury of Lynchburg for 18 years, until her retirement in 2000, as Executive Assistant to the President and Secretary of the Corporation. Prior to these positions, she was employed in the Lynchburg City and Campbell County Public School systems and at Randolph-Macon Woman’s College. She was a longtime member of Centenary United Methodist Church.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her three brothers, Ernest W. Roakes, Clarence T. Roakes, and Lawrence E. Roakes.
She is survived by her son, William David Crews, Jr. and his significant other, Kim P. Gregory, her sister-in-law, Nancy C. Roakes and a number of other relatives.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 9, 2024 at Spring Hill Cemetery with the Reverend Dan G. Mason officiating.
