Gertrude Gertie Smith Nichols

Born in Campbell County, May 2, 1908 she was a daughter of the late George Lee and Mary Childress Smith. She retired as a Stamper for Craddock-Terry Shoe Corp after 52 years. Gertrude was a member of Fairview Christian Church.

She is also preceded in death by three sisters, Cassie S. Rafferty, Beulah S. Wooldridge, Virginia S. Powell; and two brothers, George and Hurbert Smith.

Gertrude is survived by her son, W. Thomas Nichols, Jr. and wife, Betty; brother, Claude Smith; sister, Lallie S. Wood; grandchildren, Beverly N. Vaughan (Phillip), Gary Wayne Nichols, Steven Thomas Nichols; great-grandchildren, Kevin Dalton (Synona), Melissa Slayton (Ryan), Kelly Vaughan, Brandy Little, Darryl Nichols, Shana Nichols, Katie Nichols; and six great-great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in Whitten Timberlake Chapel conducted by the Rev. Mark Hine. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 7:00-8:30 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.
