Gene Aloysius Mason, 77, went to be with the Lord, Saturday, March 6, 2010. He was the husband of 43 years to the late Delores Jane Mason. Born March 8, 1932 in Cincinnati, Ohio, he was the son of the late Walter F. and Irna Kline Mason.
Mr. Mason was a former owner of Alco Aluminum, a US Air Force Veteran and a member of Christian Chapel, where he actively served as an Elder, member of New Day Gospel Singers, taught Sunday School, Nursing Home Ministry and Jail Ministry and offered his hand to many in need.
In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Mason is also preceded in death by one son, Danny Gene Mason; six brothers, Clarence, Johnny, Raymond, Wayne, Walter and Herschel Mason; three sisters, Roberta Jenkins, Hilda Fritz and Estella Spangler.
Mr. Mason is survived by three sisters, Lynnette Carmack, Virginia Decker, Elda Catron; five sons, Mark A. Moreland and spouse (Karen), D. Kevin Moreland (Susan) of Lynchburg, David D. Moreland (Robin) of Rustburg, D. Scott Moreland (Wanda), G. Michael Mason of Lynch Station; three daughters, Lynnette P. Childress of Appomattox, Sheree L. Noell (Tony) and Sandra K. Carter (Larry) of Lynchburg; sixteen grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted, 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at Christian Chapel with the Rev. Ray Triplett and the Rev. Mike Ferree officiating. Interment will follow at Tree of Life Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel and at other times at the residence.
