Etta Thelma Tucker Hogan Bennett, 83, of Appomattox and formerly of Lynchburg, died, Friday, January 27, 2012, at her residence. She was the wife of 36 years (1944-1980) to the late Herman Lusby Hogan, Sr. and 18 years (1984-2002) to the late Eugene Bennett. Born August 5, 1928, in Bedford County, she was the daughter of the late Ammon Tucker and the late Blanche Lemon Tucker.
Mrs. Bennett was a retired sales clerk for Leggett’s where she served for 15 years and was a member of Marsh Memorial United Methodist Church for approximately 60 years. She was a volunteer for both Lynchburg General Hospital and Virginia Baptist Hospital, Meals on Wheels and Runk and Pratt Retirement Community. Mrs. Bennett enjoyed playing volleyball, brisk walking, reading her Bible, sewing, knitting, crocheting and cooking.
In addition to her parents and her husbands, Mrs. Bennett is preceded in death by Herman Lusby Hogan, Jr. and Carlton D. Hogan and two brothers, Francis Tucker and Benny Tucker; and one sister, Georgie Witt Cox.
Mrs. Bennett is survived by her daughter, Anita Ann Hogan of Appomattox; Estelle Hogan Hawkins Holloran, Elaine Hogan Allen, Daniel Kermit Hogan, all of Lynchburg, Regeyna Faye Bennett Coffey of Florida and Darlene Laverne Bennett Jacobson of North Carolina; her granddaughter, Elizabeth Ann Dick of Appomattox; her sister Darlene Little of Altavista; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, January 31, 2012, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends, 10:30 – 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, January 31, 2012, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.
