Born on September 5, 1940, in Lynchburg, VA, Elmo was the son of the late Allen P. Wood and Margaret B. Wood. He was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.
Elmo spent his career as a dedicated truck driver for Overnight Transportation. A man of deep faith, he was a Deacon and Charter Member of Jordan Baptist Church, where he found great joy in serving others. He had a love for adventure, traveling often and making special memories along the way. Fishing brought him peace, and he took great pride in helping on the Indian Reservation in Arizona. At home, his heart belonged to his family and his beloved Chihuahuas—Sugar, Cinnamon, and Spice.
Above all, Elmo cherished his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Marion M. Wood; his children, Karen Fortune, Peggy Lawrie (Gregg), Teresa Simpson, Mary Wood, Wanda Parrish (Mike), and Troy Wood (Kathy). He also leaves behind 14 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren who will forever hold his memory close.
Family and friends are invited to a time of visitation on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, from 10:00 am to 10:45 am at Jordan Baptist Church. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 11:00 am, officiated by Pastor Steve Reeves and Pastor Carlton Dunn. Burial will take place at Kedron Baptist Cemetery.
