Born on May 24, 1941 in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late Rev. Randall and Gertrude Layne. He was also preceded in death by his brother, RC Layne; and a sister, Jane Davis.
Pat was an avid lover of all things involving sports and participated in many throughout the years. Many times the neighborhood children would knock on the door and ask if Pat could come outside and play ball. He relished the invitation and always tried to offer suggestions to improve their game. Prior to his retirement, Pat was a self-employed contractor. He was a member of the Baptist faith and loved singing along and listening to gospel music.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Judy Layne; daughters Melanie Fears (Bennie) and Ann Eubank (Matt); his beloved grandchildren, Bradley Huddleston, Jordan Fears, Leah Fears, Devin Shepherd and Kendall Shepherd; and two sisters, Mary Campbell and Martha Arrowood (Butch).
A memorial service celebrating his life will be conducted on Thursday, October 19, 2023 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel at 11:00 a.m. officiated by Pastor Norman “Mickey” Ryan.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 a.m at the funeral home.
