Dorothy Griffith Franklin, 99, of Lynchburg passed away Thursday, August 31, 2023 surrounded by her loved ones. She was the daughter of the late Alonzo Ernest Griffith and Mary Clemence Hardy Griffith.
Born November 23, 1923, Dorothy's life was a beautiful symphony of love and care. She found solace and joy in music, lending her voice to the choir, and creating harmonies that resonated in the hearts of those who heard her. Her green thumb transformed her garden into a colorful haven, a testament to her deep love for flowers. Yet, above all, Dorothy was the quintessential family woman. Her adoration for her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren knew no bounds. She was a beacon of hope and kindness in her community, dedicating herself to making the world a better place through her humanitarian endeavors. Dorothy's legacy of love, music, gardening, and selflessness will forever inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her.
In addition to her parents Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Davis Earl Franklin, Sr.; her children Judith F. Black, Davis E. Franklin, Jr., James E. Franklin; her grandchild James Davis Franklin; and her four siblings.
Those left to cherish Dorothy’s memory include her grandchildren Kathryn Baltzelle, Jenny McCraw, John Griffith Franklin, Daniel E. Franklin; her great grandchildren Stephen T. McCraw, Savannah Bryant, Ethan Baltzelle, Ruby Lynn Franklin, Harper Ryan Franklin, Jack James Franklin, Reese Elizabeth Franklin; and her great-great grandchildren Sydney Taylor McCraw and Kathryn Webb Bryant.
A graveside service will take place on Wednesday September 6, 2023 at 1:00pm at Spring Hill Cemetery. Visitation for Dorothy will be held Tuesday September 5, 2023 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel from 6:00pm-8:00 pm.
