He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Gail Caldwell Maddox, his son David, Jr. and his wife Terry of Forest, his daughter Melissa (Missy) Spence and her husband, Jeff also of Forest and the four finest grandchildren a Papa could ask for, David (Trace) H. Maddox III, Charles (Charlie Buck) W. Maddox, Kimber A. Spence and Kortlyn A. Spence. He also leaves behind two brothers, Richard (Virginia) Maddox of Blue Ridge, VA; Wayne (Joy) Maddox of Vine Grove, KY and his sister Darlene Maddox of Lynchburg. David will also be missed by a multitude of family and friends who are proud to call him Brother, Son-in-Law, Brother-in-Law, Uncle, Cousin and friend. Those awaiting his homecoming are his loving parents, Lee and Catherine Maddox, a brother, Ronald Maddox and his Mother-in-Law Margaret Caldwell.
David will always be known as a kind, loving, generous and gentle man. His family always came first as can be testified to by his devotion to care for his parents, sister, wife, children and grandchildren. Without hesitation, David was always giving of his time and abilities to whoever he felt would benefit, he never knew a stranger.
He always knew the right words at the right time and he knew how to brighten someone’s day with his words and smile and David’s smile was always the brightest, when he was surrounded by those he loved and cared for.
He was a member of Marsh Memorial United Methodist Church. In his younger years he sang in the church choir, played on their softball and basketball teams and was a member of the church bowling league. He was also a coach with the Brookville Comets Little League Football Association during his children’s participation. He graduated from Brookville High School in 1974. He provided ten years of loyal service to Azdel and prior to that he dedicated twenty-eight years of loyal service to Consumers, Dornin and Adams.
A visitation will be held Thursday, March 27, 2014 from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Whitten Timberlake Chapel. A celebration of David’s life will be held Friday, March 28, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Marsh Memorial United Methodist Church 20348 Leesville Rd. Lynchburg, VA. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
