Carl Milton Hale, passed from this earth into eternity at the rich age of 85 years old on January 13, 2022. He was a remarkable man who lived a life full of adventure, honor, integrity, and humor. He loved being with his family, particularly his wife Edna Hale of 61 years. Carl’s legacy additionally lives on through his two daughters, Gwen Hale Seiler and Jeri Hale Howell and their husbands (Sig and Joey); his brother Wayne and wife Lula; his sister Nancy; his three granddaughters, Samantha and husband Josh, Hayley and husband Brian, and Courtney; and two great grandchildren.
His story began on April 10, 1936 in Bluff City, TN, where he was born the son of Fielden Levi and Ruth Reedy Hale. His early years were filled with many formative experiences of hard work, love, and dedication, shaping his integrity and positive outlook on life. Carl’s career path began when he answered the call to serve his country during the Korean War era, as a member of the United States Army. He then worked for the C&P Telephone Company, eventually being promoted to the role of network switching supervisor. His unwavering devotion to service was further demonstrated as a firefighter with the Brookville Timberlake Volunteer Fire Department for a total of 23 years (with 11 years as Chief). He also volunteered as a member of the Virginia Defense Force. Carl simultaneously became well-known for his endearing personality and incredible ability to teach during his nearly 30 years as a private pilot and flight instructor with Falwell Aviation. He remained a committed member of Chestnut Hill Baptist Church for around 60 years, and he faithfully served in many capacities throughout his time there. Anyone who knew Carl will undoubtedly remember his kind heart, humble spirit, joyful personality, and devotion to His Savior.
