Bryan Thomas Lyttle, 47, of Forest, Virginia, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, following a courageous battle with cancer. Throughout his illness, Bryan's greatest source of strength and determination was the love for his children, who were his reason for fighting this disease each and every day.
Born on November 22, 1977, in Inverness, Scotland, Bryan was raised in Austria as the son of missionaries. His childhood was marked by travels across Europe, where he and his family delivered aid and relief supplies to communities in Eastern Europe suffering from the ravages of war and political turmoil. This early exposure to the challenges faced by others shaped Bryan’s lifelong commitment to helping those in need.
Bryan later moved to the United States to attend Liberty University, where he earned a degree in psychology. He made Central Virginia his home, where he started his family and built a life centered on faith and service. His greatest pride was his seven children, four girls and three boys, ranging in age from 10 to 18, whom he loved with all his heart.
For over two decades, Bryan served at Old Dominion Job Corps in Monroe, Virginia. He dedicated himself to guiding young people, rising through the ranks from security officer to counselor, manager, and ultimately becoming the Campus Center Director. His impact on the lives of those he worked with will never be forgotten.
Bryan is survived by his loving parents, Thomas David Lyttle and Wilma MacDonald Lyttle; his seven children, Catalina, Jackson, Charlize, Calila, Dawson, Charlotte, and Courage Lyttle; his three brothers, Iain Lyttle (Tanja), Jon Marc Lyttle (Ashley), and Allyn Lyttle. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins in the US, UK, and Australia.
A service celebrating Bryan’s life and faith will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 11, 2025, at Blue Ridge Community Church. Interment will follow at Virginia Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 5 to o 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to The Bryan Thomas Lyttle Trust, which Bryan set up in life to ease the practical burdens that lie ahead for his young children’s futures, educational aspirations, and their pursuit of independence.
